Materials

The materials described below are all available at the CIAL Mediateca for use in the mediateca. However, they are not catalogued as CIAL materials but are to be found in the SIS Materials Box.

  Cial Video Green Card (1990) with Depardieu and Macdowell A pleasant comedy full of nice phrases which are usually easy to understand. Download the worksheet to help you through the film. This film is among CIAL's own film library. You will have to look in the CIAL catalogue to find out the ref number. Happy viewing.
DVDs DVD 1 Yes Minister: The slippery pole A lighthearted and extremely funny look at how the political machinery works in the UK.       Worksheet.

  DVD 2 Fawlty Towers - Waldorf Salad One for fun. This has been a popular TV comedy show starring John Cleese and Connie Booth, who also wrote the show. It has been enjoying repeats every year since it was first transmitted on 5 March 1979. A transcript is available in CIAL mediateca (not online for copyright reasons). Enjoy!

The Reith Lectures 1999 - Anthony Giddens A series of lectures given by Anthony Giddens, the then Director of the London School of Economics. He speaks about Globalisation, Risk, Tradition, Family, Democracy. These lectures can also be listened to online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/reith1999/

These lectures can also be listened to online.  Use the Lectures for note taking practice and then write up your notes as an article for the (imaginary) University English Language Monthly.
