Materials

The materials described below are all available at the CIAL Mediateca for use in the mediateca. However, they are not catalogued as CIAL materials but are to be found in the SIS Materials Box.

	V2	Blair vs Blair. Panorama documentary called "The Blairs in conversation" Imaginary conversations between Tony and Cherie based on their real comments. 	V3 & V4	Warlords A 4-part documentary about the power struggle among four major players during the second world war: Churchill, Roosevelt, Stalin and Hitler.
	V5	The British Middle Class The rise of the bourgeouisie in the industrial towns of the Midlands The Secrets of the Sexes Why the sexes are fundamentally differnt in their approaches to life. First in a 5-part series.
	Cial Video	Green Card (1990) with Depardieu and Macdowell A pleasant comedy full of nice phrases which are usually easy to understand. Download the worksheet to help you through the film. This film is among CIAL's own film library. You will have to look in the CIAL catalogue to find out the ref number. Happy viewing.
DVDs	DVD 1	Yes Minister: The slippery pole A lighthearted and extremely funny look at how the political machinery works in the UK. Worksheet. Transcript of programme available in Mediateca.
	DVD 2	Fawlty Towers - Waldorf Salad One for fun. This has been a popular TV comedy show starring John Cleese and Connie Booth, who also wrote the show. It has been enjoying repeats every year since it was first transmitted on 5 March 1979. A transcript is available in CIAL mediateca (not online for copyright reasons). Enjoy!

CDs	CD 1	The Reith Lectures 1999 - Anthony Giddens A series of lectures given by Anthony Giddens, the then Director of the London School of Economics. He speaks about Globalisation, Risk, Tradition, Family, Democracy. These lectures can also be listened to online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/reith1999/ There are several worksheets for these listenings, mostly created by you, that you can download from the "Practice makes Perfect" page: The Family Democracy
	CD 2	British Academy Lectures A series of lectures organised by the British Academy on a range of subjects ranging from the Keynes Lecture on The New Political Economy to a debate on A Question of Culture. These lectures can also be listened to online. Use the Lectures for note taking practice and then write up your notes as an article for the (imaginary) University English Language Monthly.
	CD 3	The Reith Lectures 1999 - Anthony Giddens The Family An extra copy of the 1999 Reith Lecture on the future of the family
	CD 4	The Psychology of Consumerism - Japan Related to the topic of CD3 this radio 4 programme deals with how consumerism is shaping family patterns in Japan - are the Japanese a race destined to disappear?

The Court of Last Resort - second of a two part documentary (sorry, I missed the first one) discussing the role of the European Court of Human Rights When I find a spare hour or so I will transcribe these listenings. In the meantime you could each try to do 5 minutes each!
